Vietnam History Museum is located near the
Municipal Theater and Hoan Kiem Lake in downtown
Hanoi. The museum preserves a large number of
valuable artifacts from various historical
periods.
The exhibits are clearly
displayed on 2 floors, covering an area of more
than 2,000 m2. The first section
contains relics from prehistoric times
discovered in different sites throughout the
country. These items date back mainly from the
Paleolithic and the Neolithic Ages.
The adjacent room presents
the civilization of the ancient Viet people at
the time of the Hung Kings who founded the
nation. All these relics show the brilliant
development of Vietnam’s culture from the late
Neolithic Age to the early Iron Age. Many
impressive bronze drums of the Dong Son era are
still preserved.
The
enduring struggle for national independence and
sovereignty from the 1st to the 10th centuries
are reflected in many historical artifacts
associated with uprisings against foreign
invaders. These protests were led by national
heroes such as the Trung sisters, Lady Trieu,
Mai Thuc Loan, Ly Bon, Phung Hung, and Ngo
Quyen.
The
history of the period of independence and
feudalism which lasted from the 10th to the 19th
centuries with the Dinh, Tien Le, Ly, Tran, Ho,
Le, Mac, Tay Son, and Nguyen dynasties, are
represented by many valuable collections. These
exhibits help visitors to get a better
understanding of the Vietnamese culture.
The
last part of the exhibit relates the victory of
the August 1945 Revolution.
All
who visit Vietnam History Museum get a clearer
understanding of the prolonged process for
defense of the country.
President Ho Chi
Minh's Mausoleum
The
construction of the Mausoleum started in
September 1973, on the foundations of the old
rostrum in Ba Dinh Square where president Ho Chi
Minh used to chair national meetings. Ho Chi
Minh's Mausoleum was completed nearly 2 years
later on August 29, 1975.
On
the front of the Mausoleum is engraved "Chu Tich
Ho Chi Minh," meaning "President Ho Chi Minh."
Uncle Ho's dead body dressed in his faded khaki
clothes and plain rubber shoes was put in a
glass coffin..
The
Mausoleum is the everlasting rest house of the
greatest leader of Vietnam
