Golden Lotus Hotel located on trendy Pho Hang Trong, a block west of Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi's Old Quarter,
the brand new Golden Lotus is a rich mix of eastern flavours and Western chic.

From the moment you walk in you can see this place has been designed by someone who knows what they're doing. The foyer is all soft light, Asian angles and artwork, from abstract oil through to beaten copper to glazed pottery. It works. The arty theme extends up the staircase, and into the 12 rooms. Each has a wooden floor, striped silk on the beds, funky rice-paper light shades and art aplenty. They also have Internet and quiet central air-con. Rear rooms don't have much of a window, making front rooms with their balconies a better bet. Our favourite

was room 701, which is a bit smaller but has a terrace on which you can sit and take in the trees and rooftops of the Old Quarter. If you can't get it, take the lift to the roof for panoramic views.

Pho Hang Trong is packed with shops selling handicrafts, silks and art. Pho Nha Tho, a two-minute walk, is a great little street for an afternoon drink at La Salsa and some traditional Vietnamese fish fare at La Brique - the cha ca (fried fish in banana leaves) is sensational.

From north end of Hoan Kiem Lake, head west across traffic and down Pho Hang Gai. Take first left (south) on Pho Hang Trong; hotel is on right (west) about 100m down.

Location in the old quarter was perfect with plenty of trendy shops, cafes, restaurants plus a few late-night bars a short walk away. The rooms were spotless, spacious and comfortable with large bathrooms, artwork on the walls and tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast was small but tasty.

The Golden Lotus is a great choice in the best location. Rooms are spacious, stylish with polished floors and tea/coffe making facilites. The Old Quarter is alive with street sellers, art shops, cafes and bars and the Golden Lotus is right in the heart of all.
