Can Tho infrastructure
Can Tho infrastructure has been increasing and
synchronously developed such as Can Tho port and container port, which can
dock 10,000 ton vessels; Cai Cui sea port in the first phase has 3 docks for
10,000 ton vessels, in which 1 dock is used for containers specifically, a
container yard of 28,000 m2, another commodity yard of 8,000 m2 and a
warehouse of 36,000 m2. Can Tho airport has been upgraded and enlarged and
will become the international airport of the Mekong Delta in the near
future, making the transportation of goods and import export with the
countries in Asian, Pacific Ocean Asia and America easy.
The system of modern mailing and telecommunication operates all over the
country and the world; Can Tho thermos power plant has a capacity of 200 MW
supplying power for the whole region and O Mon thermos power plant with a
capacity of 600 MW is being built and will be upgraded to 2,600 MW in the
future; 2 water plants with a capacity of 7,000 m3 per day and night and
other plants with the total capacity of 200,000 m3 per day and night will be
built in Hung Phu Industrial Park to provide clean water for production and
daily living.
The General Hospital of 700 beds with modern facilities has been operated
in the year 2005. The intensive medical centers have provided high quality
medical services for people in the region. Besides, many private hospitals
have been currently constructed.
The important traffic ways such as national highway No. 1, No. 91B and
No. 61 connecting Can Tho city and other provinces in the region, creating
good conditions for transporting and handling goods with Ho Chi Minh city
quickly and easily.
The regional television center, local television and broadcasting,
channels of cable television and satellite have come into operation. -
Annually, to 2-4 fairs are organized in the Can Tho International Exhibition
- Fair Center, making the best opportunities for trading goods between
producers, manufacturers and consumers.
Can Tho city has an excellent system of banks, assurance and auditing
units operating effectively and parallelingly in the country and all over
the world.
Beside the formal educational system, Can Tho city has got 24 training
schools and vocational centers of all kinds. Can Tho University and the
Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute are the great training and
scientific-technical center of the region and the whole country, which
yearly provide ten thousand of engineers, scientific and technical officials
and skilled workers.
Moreover, there are many resorts and
entertainment places in Can Tho city such as water park, biological tourist
areas, the excellent system of restaurants and modern and high standard
hotels which have made Can Tho city a plentiful and diversified center of
economy, culture
Transport: converge many important
intersections. In which:
*Road: National road No.1A lengthening 40 km on the
city's jurisdiction that is artery connecting Can Tho
with Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces and cities in
the region as well as the nation as a whole. National
road No.91 spreads 30 km of provincial terrain linking
Can Tho port, Tra Noc airport, and Tra Noc technologic
zone with National road No.1A. Besides, the city is
promoting construction of Can Tho bridge (connect Can
Tho with Ho Chi Minh City and other cities and provinces
in Mekong River Delta), it is expected to be finished in
2008.
*Waterway: There are two big seaports of Can Tho and Cai
Cui in the city. In which, Can Tho is international port
able to receive ten-thousand-tonne-loading ship; Cai Cui
is underway to receive twenty-thousand-tonne-loading
ship with loading and uploading capacity obtaining 4.2
million of tonnes of commodity per year. Additionally,
dense ditch system is favourable condition for waterway
transportation vehicles.
*Airport: Tra Noc airport is being upgraded and enlarged
for inland flights to provinces, and cities through out
the nation. In the near future, it will intensify more
flights to neighbouring countries in ASEAN.
Communication: the city has constructed massive
information system and modern post-telecommunication
providing best services for commercial exchange among
cities, provinces, and overseas nations.
Electricity, water supply: municipal grid and
water supply system can satisfy demands of investors
with Tra Noc electric plant in capacity of 200 MW and O
Mon power underway with capacity of 600 MW (first
phrase) and 1,200 MW (second phrase), two water plants
supplying 90,000 cu.m per day. Currently, the city has
set up plan on building further two safe water supply
plants with capacity of 200,000 cu.m per day for the
local area to 2010.
Science, education and training: Can Tho
University (promoting science-technique potentials
serving Mekong River Delta region). Moreover, there are
Cuu Long Delta Rice Research Institute and vocational
training schools, and centre of software technology.
Thereof, Can Tho is regarded as place gathering massive
scientific officials who are well-versed in researching
and using advanced science-technology in production.
Over the past years, the city has trained more than
20,000 students and workers qualified for professional
skill and ability. Can Tho is calling for further
investment related to electronic and informatic
technology projects as well as high-technology sectors.
Health: There are many hospitals, and medical
stations from district, commune, and ward levels. Those
dispensaries provide better quality of medical
examination and treatment. In 2004, the city had 31/67
medical stations of communes and wards certified for
national standards. Now, it is accelerating project
performance of constructing central hospital in the
range of 700 - 1,000 clinical beds meeting medical
examination and treatment demands of municipal and
regional patients.
